The best half way stop in South Africa
One of the most important highways in South Africa, the N1 slices through almost the full width of the country, linking the major cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria with Cape Town, some 1500 kilometres apart. It also forms part of a popular route to Durban and the Eastern Cape centres of Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth. A break in a journey of such length is essential for comfortable (and safe) motoring. That ideal break is provided by Springfontein Guesthouse in the village of Springfontein in the Free State, ideally sited 145 kilometres south of Bloemfontein and 80 kilometres north of Colesburg.
Our historic village of Springfontein is only 3 kilometres off the N1 highway itself, on the old Pretoria / Cape Town tar road. That means that we are close to but suitably insulated from the sound of traffic on the N1, so guests at Springfontein Guesthouse are able to derive the full benefit of country village tranquility.
Established in 1904, the village boasts the presence of Springfontein Guesthouse, where the warmth of the welcome, and the quality of accommodation and food, epitomise the excellence for which people of the Free State are renowned.
If you are fortunate enough to have little more time and are able to spend a few days with us, Springfontein Guesthouse also offers you an ideal base for visiting places of local interest. These include highly interesting historic graveyards in the immediate area dating back to the Anglo-Boer War, as well as several nearby historic picturesque villages which are well worth a short drive into history.
